Another scenic port followed by ship board fun…
Day 7 Tuesday 15th October – Vava’u and Pirate Night
Got up early after a not so good night sleep, saw an island out the window but the ship was still moving. Got dressed and ready to go to early breakfast with our towels and bags ready for the tender. The anchor was dropped.
After a light meal we headed to the Marquee room, still a little early, so we went for a walk around for about 20 mins then went back and met up with Liz and Wayne, laughed and joked while waiting to go onto the tender. Eventually we did get into the lifeboat.
When we got on shore we got on our convoy of buses and drove up across the island to the Botanic Gardens, we were given a tour and it was such lush and beautiful vegetation, our lovely guide explained the importance of Karva to the Tonga people, how they have planted Tongan style where the plants want to be. Then they bused us a short way to their Cultural Centre and saw how coconut plants were made into woven products, the beach there was beautiful.
The tables were laid with fruit and coconuts with straws to drink the juice. We went down the beach to the sheltered lagoon to have a swim. Truly magic scenery and the water wonderful. Met a lady called Heather and caught up with Craig his wife Carol, daughter and granddaughter. We had a drink and borrowed Fiji dollars from Craig to buy it.
Back on the bus at 2 our journey to the main harbor delightful, the bank men had left so we couldn’t exchange our Aussie dollars to pay Craig back, yet. We had to wait in a queue for a while, but we were soon on board our tender heading back to the Pacific Pearl.
Sleepy time in our cabin again for Clive while I did this diary.
Then did a quick walk around the deck to see if anyone was dressing up as Pirates, there were a few so we decided to do the same. We took a couple of pics before we left our cabin, then headed to The Watermark for dinner. Had a lovely meal with Barry and Joan, Elaine and Rhonda, and another couple, we were the only Pirates on the table but several more were in the restaurant.
Rather than go straight back to the cabin we sat and had a drink listening to the lady pianist. Then a more professional singer in the Atrium before heading off again. Outside the night much warmer so Clive held a deck chair while I went back to do a necessary stop and change. Then we watched Argo which was really good on the big screen on pool deck. Back in the cabin quick get ready for bed.
