Christmas stocking fillers, fun for kids…

Being near the end of November with Christmas on our minds I thought it time to put together a list of great books for children and young adults by Australian authors that I’ve met, interviewed or reviewed their books.

For the younger children ‘ Mrs Echidna’s Dilemma’ Betty Johnston Betty Johnstonproduced this beautifully textured book after creating the quilt telling the story. thumb_MrsEchidna-Cover_03

The story quilt was hand-stitched in ‘stump work’, or three-dimensional embroidery, using a wide variety of textures, threads and stitches; the text was back-stitched, and embellished with cross-stitch eucalypts (gum leaves and flowers). Each section features different stitches, and a variety of textures. I completed each panel by hand-stitching it, ‘quilt as you go’ style.

Bailey Beats the Blah coverBailey Beats the BLAH by Karen Tyrrell is for young Primary School age children. Encouraging kids to discuss how they feel and how to cope with change.

Another great picture book by the very talented Dimity Powell is PS: PS Who Stole Santa's Mail CoverWho Stole Santa’s Mail,
