Inspiring young writers – encouraging literacy
Help us bring published authors into local schools and inspire our young people to write.
Literacy is essential to the future of our children and how they integrate into a world of ever expanding technology and communication.
Yes, we have a dream. As volunteer coordinators for the Gold Coast Writers Festival we wish to encourage our young people to become the world’s future authors. The ‘Authors in Schools Program’ sees published writers interact with students in local schools. The workshop program is exciting, fun, hands on and very motivational.
The Gold Coast Writers Festival, a not-for-profit event, is proud to be expanding the ‘Authors in Schools’ one day program to this year encompass 6 host schools – 4 primary & 2 secondary – with invitations to many more students from surrounding schools.
This is a free event, however we are paying the authors to present their workshops. Last year the Gold Coast Writers’ Association, which presents the Festival, paid for the authors. This year we require some help in funding and are asking you to vote for our dream and help us raise much needed funds to support this worthwhile event.
One School Principal shared how much of an impact and impression meeting a published author has on the students. “Their excitement spurs them on to realising they too can be an author; that writing can be fun and exciting.”
The publishing world has changed radically and children as young as six are now publishing their own books. This fabulous program offers valuable information and inspiration from professional authors, specially selected to present these in-school workshops.
