I love this time of year when Somerset Celebration of Literature comes around. The buzz felt by the children coming from schools all around the coast, the participating authors love the interaction with their audience of children and fellow writers. I’m happy to attend as many sessions as I can and soak up the inspirational addresses, the children’s take on the authors works, and going to the bookshop to top up my mounting pile of books.
The Somerset Celebration of Literature is a significant cultural event that reaches beyond Somerset College to include the whole community. This inspiring three day festival is held on the Gold Coast each year, with ticket sales exceeding 15,000.
Over 30 acclaimed authors from around Australia hold interactive sessions and workshops for both children and adults. It’s a great opportunity to meet authors and illustrators, have your books signed and enjoy a festival dedicated to reading and writing.
This years line up of authors is particularly exciting. Go to the website and check it out! Or, better still, if you are on the Gold Coast next week, drop in. Even if you don’t go to many sessions, just milling around the bookshop is worthwhile.
